The Canvas Institute Approach

To co-create a sustainable system & culture in order to ensure that students, educators & families have opportunities to participate in a supportive learning & community-building experience that combines Compassionate Systems evidence-based tools and practices (SEL) to improve the well being of the education community one school at a time. Our community-building curriculum focuses conversation and analysis of issues or events to maximize impact while teaching essential self-care and life skills.

It’s our mission to provide students of all ages & walks of life with enriching cultural & social emotional learning experiences. Our work focuses on providing both students & educators with the tools to achieve self-mastery & self regulation. Our programs prioritize holistic well being through Compassionate Systems approaches, physical recreational activities, cultural/ arts programming, anti-violence advocacy & career & college readiness.

Canvas Institute is a 501-C3 that opened its doors to the public in January 2016, hosting many successful events with great attendance & gaining the attention of local & international press.

Leading the charge as the first multidisciplinary arts & culture space in Downtown Staten Island, Canvas seeks to increase the positive impact of community driven artists, scholars & civic leaders. Canvas’ public programs, discussions & quarterly art exhibits attract local & visiting audiences promoting open dialogue, creativity & international action.

THE 17TH ANNUAL YOUTH EMPOWERMENT SUMMIT 2023

The Canvas Institute/ Island Voice Youth Empowerment Summit, is now in its 17th year! We welcome elementary, middle school, and high school students from all across New York City and the World for youth-led panels, workshops, guest facilitators, and “Compassionate Systems” Master Practitioners.

Growing Compassionate Systems

Bobby Digi provides these services with nearly 3 decades of grassroots work and MIT Certified training. This program intertwines Compassionate Systems tools with art and creative expression.

Our program delivers Compassionate Systems tools and Practices to young students including social-emotional learning and well-being education/guidance. Some further examples of these tools include self-regulation skills and violence reduction training.
