Canvas Hub Summer Program

In February 2021, we organized our first virtual edition of the Youth Empowerment Summit, focusing mental well-being, careers in the arts and climate change in the age of COVID 19. In service of our Staten Island Youth, we present to you the 2023 Canvas Hub Summer Program.

What we offer

Socio-Emotional and mental Wellness

Our compassionate mindfulness and yoga program is designed to promote the social and emotional well-being of Staten Island's student community. Through the program, students will develop a better understanding of themselves and their interconnectedness with social systems, relationships, self-regulation skills, and resilience. Our focus is on teaching students about compassionate systems awareness, mindfulness, and self-care to help them grow in these areas.

Exposure to Creative Arts

Students on the North Shore of Staten Island will have access to two art programs: spoken word poetry and photojournalism, where they will receive mentorship and training in audio and visual production skills. Through spoken-word poetry and photojournalism, students will create art that helps them express their current reality and provides them with art therapy. The project-based learning experiences gained from these programs will prepare students to become civic leaders who will foster cultural development on the North Shore of Staten Island.

Empowerment as global change-Makers

Our Climate Emergency program will empower students with the knowledge and skills to understand and address the various components of the climate crisis on a global scale. The program will also emphasize the emotional aspect of dealing with this urgent issue and provide students with the tools to engage in constructive conversations about it. By taking action locally, our students will be part of a larger global community committed to addressing the climate crisis.
